Haiti Cholera Outbreak

An outbreak of cholera was confirmed in Haiti on October 21, 2010. Cholera had not been documented in Haiti for decades so cholera outbreaks were considered unlikely in Haiti immediately following the earthquake in January, 2010.
Cholera infection is most often asymptomatic or causes a mild gastroenteritis. However, about 5% of infected persons develop severe, dehydrating, acute watery diarrhea. Administration of oral rehydration salts and, when necessary, intravenous fluids and electrolytes in a timely manner with adequate volumes will reduce case-fatality rates to less than 1%. What we are doing
In partnership with Marshfield Clinic and Servants of All Ministry, LWEC will be sending medical supplies to Grand Goave, Haiti. These antibiotics and IV fluids will be used to address the Cholera outbreak at a local orphanage overseen by native, Pastor Gregory.
LWEC member, Dayo Sarumi, a local pediatrician, will be lending her professional expertise
and servant's heart to address both the natural and spiritual needs of those in Haiti.

I want to thank the family of Living Word Eau Claire for their financial support as well as prayers over our trip to Haiti. The resources you provided are invaluable, and we are forever grateful. May God richly bless you beyond what you deserve for rendering help to Him, by meeting the needs of others.
The trip was a success, and by the grace of God, we intend to continue this at least yearly if not more often, as the Lord provides.
We were able to treat over 1200 adults and children in the 5 days that we were able to run clinic, though some of us took care of
patients even outside clinic hours since we stayed at the orphanage and were accessible.
It was a humbling as well as encouraging experience to see God work through their lives to bless us and work through us to bless
them as well. I speak for most of my team members when I say that we were more blessed to have been able to be a blessing.
Lots of pictures were taken and are in the process of being collated, but attached are a few.
